All getaways to Western Australia’s South West involve delicious food. The region is renowned for it’s fresh local produce and there are so many cafes, restaurants and wineries in the region, that it’s literally impossible to get to them all in one trip!
I’ve visited the region at least 20 times over the last decade and every time I visit, I find new places to visit. My last visit was no exception with the discovery of a little cafe called Conscious Craves in Dunsborough and this is my best find yet. I’m so excited to share this one with you!
The cafe is located on the main strip in town at 222 Naturalise Terrace and is open from Friday to Tuesday from 8.30am-2.30pm. I believe the cafe has been established in Dunsborough for quite some time however in August of 2020, it was taken over by a lovely couple named Pam and Kit and it has been rebranded as an entirely plant based cafe and it is AMAZING!
The cafe has lots of parking out the front and once inside you’ll be greeted to a beautiful, large open space filled with the smell of fresh coffee and lots of plants. If you’re lucky enough to visit in winter, you can guarantee the fireplace will be on keeping the place warm and cosy.
If you’re lucky enough to visit in the summer, there’s also an outdoor area out the back with lots of bench seating and a huge veggie garden that I could only dream of having at home. You can bring your dog along too as the cafe is dog friendly and they even provide comfy beds for your furry friend to lay on while you enjoy your food and drinks.
Now let’s talk food and drink. The entire menu is completely vegan and is focussed around using wholefoods and as much local and organic produce as possible. A lot of their food is made in house including their nut mylks and coconut yoghurt. Be sure to try the hot chocolate with house made almond milk, it is to die for! There are also lots of GF options for those who are intolerant/coeliac too – how refreshing is it to have options?!
The menu at Conscious Craves can change depending on the season and demand so the options may be different to when I visited however everything on the menu is so delicious. I highly recommend the smashed avo and the plant based toasties. They have a cabinet stocked full of toasties, paninis and salads so you won’t be short of options!
Conscious Craves has close ties to Crunchbox in Perth, home of the most delicious raw treats you’ll ever eat and the best part is, they’re all vegan, gluten free and refined sugar free! Pam and Kit who own Conscious Craves are the parents of the owner of Crunchbox, Michael, so you’ll find the cabinet stocked with lots of delicious Crunchbox treats. I am actually obsessed with Crunchbox and hiiiighly recommend the peanut butter bar, picnic, wagon wheel, mint slices and their new range of cookies.
If you can’t already tell, I am a BIG fan of Conscious Craves and I am so happy to finally have a fully vegan cafe to visit in WA’s South West region. I honestly can’t fault anything about the cafe – the staff are so lovely, the setting and atmosphere are super comfortable and the food and drinks are delicious.
Make sure you check out Conscious Craves on your next visit down south – you won’t regret it! 🙂
