When I think of a winter getaway in WA’s South West, I think of a cosy chalet to relax in surrounded by nature. Having explored the South West region many times over the last 15 years, I’m quietly confident that I have found the best affordable luxury retreat in the Margaret River region.
Eight Willows Retreat, formerly known as Willy Bay Resort has been listed as one of the top 10 luxury retreats in the Margaret River region. It is located in Metricup in WA’s South West region, just 3 hours south of Perth City. Although it’s only a short drive from Perth, once you drive into the retreat grounds and are met with tall trees and a beautiful lake, you well and truly feel like you are far away from the everyday stresses of life.
Eight Willows Retreat is situated between Margaret River and Busselton. It is positioned perfectly to explore the region, and is about a 20 minute drive to both Margaret River and Busselton. It is a short drive to many wineries and venues including Hay Shed Hill who serve an incredible vegan degustation and the very popular and famous, Margaret River Chocolate Factory.
The retreat is set on 75 acres of natural bush land with lots of animals including kangaroos, rabbits and birds including kookaburras. It has a bush trail around the property that guests can walk around as well as an orchard with oranges, lemon, limes and olives. There are two very friendly resident sheep that live in the orchard named Lionel and Lucy who are just beautiful. The sheep can be fed with approval from the staff at reception – they LOVE bread! The property is also home to some curious pet chickens.
The retreat has 25 chalets including multiple 1 and 2 bedroom chalets as well as “The Residence” that has 4 bedrooms. All chalets have either lake, vineyard and/or forest views.
The chalets are designed to be self contained and are equipped with modern appliances including a large flat screen TV and complimentary guest wifi. The bathroom has a walk in shower with a separate spa bath that is amazing to relax in! All chalets also have a washing machine and dryer.
There is a private deck with an outdoor setting and small BBQ overlooking the bush land to enjoy. It is the perfect spot to enjoy breakfast and a hot drink, nibbles and wine in the afternoon or dinner in the evening.
I have stayed in both 1 and 2 bedroom chalets many times and have thoroughly enjoyed both. The 1 bedroom chalets are more ”open plan” and have a small half wall separating the bedroom from the living area whereas the 2 bedroom chalets have actual rooms with doors that close, providing additional privacy.
Having stayed at Eight Willows Retreat about 7 times over the last five years, I can honestly say it is my absolute favourite place to stay in the Margaret River region and I cannot wait to return again! It really is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
